Scenes of torture in the so-called “Buddhist Hell”, or Naraka (Yunfeng Temple, Mianshan, county city of Jiexiu, China). In the underground worlds of Naraka, people are condemned to horrifying punishments but, unlike Christian imagery, the infernal condition does not last forever but is only one of the phases that karma undergoes, leading to immortality. In fact, after expiating their sins through pain, people are sent back to the world of the living through reincarnation in other species.
