A man and a woman. A couple in life and work. Kraneo ediciones. Joe and Cristina. Enthusiastic. Independent. Chilean. And I take the liberty of using the word Chilean after independent in memory of my third life spent in that country. A land at the end of the world with a big metropolis of 8 million inhabitants between the pole and the desert that is called Santiago, where the importance of geography can be understood also with reference to independence, precisely, and freedom. “Kraneo is the name under which we have decided to unite our souls: Joe’s poetry and my art” Cristina says. “We have been working together since we met.” Kraneo was born in June 2013, a small publishing house consisting of two people that do everything together: they plan, typeset, do the graphic design and finally print their works – which have almost reached the number of ten. They do not want to (but above all they cannot) wait for a publisher to realize their ideas, so in order to be free to publish their books, they have a house/office/workshop in Santiago with a printer and a computer. They cannot even wait for a distributor, therefore they actively participate in all the national fairs for independent publishers as well as for graphic design. Poetry and image. “We are working and living” they say “to divulge our works in Chile, for the moment being. To have the possibility of increasing the number of books in our catalogue in the future and maybe to have a national and international distribution.” They want to travel. In South America. To Europe. To look out. Go out. Go beyond. “Kraneo ediciones is the paper on which our work and our life is recorded. Together” Cristina says, confident. And I take the liberty of adding the word Love. An independent and concrete choice, Kraneo’s choice – “... to see our dreams come true, whether they are books, puppets, short films, poems” Cristina ends up. Finally, in their limitless life and production, Joe and Cristina have taken La fantasma cosquillosa by Alejandro Jodorowsky – Chilean as well but quite well-known – a 1948 theatrical piece that hadn’t been staged for years, and gave it a new rendering as a puppet show. They have of course realized the puppets, the set design, the poster design and all that was necessary to bring it back to the scene, putting on a show that is on stage from the 24th of September 2014 on, in Santiago de Chile, for free, and that would like to tour all over the country. And so, after a few quick Facebook messages, a glass of mineral water in a café in Merced and a very orderly file sent via Wetransfer containing all the materials including a vocal registration, after writing this article and listening to them, I have remembered where I put the time I lost together with my dreams and my desires.
